An awareness-raising event was held on the occasion of World Hemophilia Day

The Empathy club functioning under Social Work Department held an awareness-raising event on the occasion of World Hemophilia Day. The event was moderated by Shalan Novruzov, the chairman of the club and a first-year master's student majoring in Work with the youth. The event, like all other events following extreme conditions, was organized online.

The moderator noted that hemophilia is an inherited disease characterized by impaired blood clotting. World Hemophilia Day is an international event that formed as an awareness day about the disease organized by World Hemophilia Federation annually on April 17. World Hemophilia Day is celebrated annually under one motto so that this year`s slogan is “ Adapting to Change: A Sustainable Assistance in a New World.”

Romella Osmanova, a specialist of the Department of Continuing Medical Education, told the participants about hemophilia, the incidence of hemophilia in the world, the scientists working in this field, the hereditary transmission scheme, the incidence of hemophilia in children under 2 years, the spread of the disease in Azerbaijan, governmental support to it, steps to fight against the disease and general information in all.

Ayaz Huseynov, Chairman of the Board of the Republican Association of Hemophilia Patients, noted that the association he rules is a public organization consisting of hemophilia patients and their parents living in Azerbaijan. The organization, founded in 1997 informs the public and government organizations about hemophilia issues through various events and meetings. One of the main goals of the association is to achieve quality treatment of citizens suffering from hemophilia and other blood clotting disorders. In his speech, Ayaz Huseynov also informed the participants about the social programs of the association.

Tunzala Verdiyeva, head of the Department of Social work Organization, praised the measures taken by the Republic Association of Hemophilia Patients to raise awareness about the disease.

It was stated at the event that the Republic Association of Hemophilia Patients together with the State Agency for Compulsory Medical Insurance, TABIB, and the National Center for Hematology and Transfusiology will hold an international conference on April 17 – World Hemophilia Day. The conference will feature presentations on the current situation of citizens suffering from hemophilia and other blood clotting disorders, international experience, and new treatments.

Then a speech on the topic was given by Chichak Guliyeva, a first-year master's student majoring in Work with the youth at Azerbaijan University.

In the end, discussions were held on the topic and participants' questions were answered.
