Misir Mardanov was a guest of the “Sossfera” student club

Misir Mardanov, Director of the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics under the Ministry of Science and Education, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor, met with students of Azerbaijan University at the invitation of the Sosfera Social Development Club operating under the Department of Social Work Organisation.

The event was attended by the Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs of Azerbaijan University, Yusif Gasimov; the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Safar Mammadov; a lecturer of the Department of Social Work Organisation and the founder of the club, Aykhan Shahbazsoy; members of the club; as well as a group of faculty members and students of the University.

During the meeting, Misir Mardanov delivered a presentation entitled “Modern Azerbaijani Education: Problems and Solutions”. The presentation addressed the prestige of the teaching profession and the factors influencing it, current challenges in the field of education, the causes of these challenges and ways to overcome them, as well as other related topics. Misir Mardanov emphasised the importance of cooperation between the family, the teacher, and the school in education and stated that the educational process is a shared responsibility not only of the school or the teacher, but of the entire social environment.

In his presentation, he also noted that following the restoration of independence, various reforms had been implemented in the Azerbaijani education system to adapt it to the international education system. He compared the education systems of leading countries with the Azerbaijani education system, explaining the differences and their underlying reasons.

The presentation also touched upon issues related to the examination system, the importance and principles of student-centred and learner-oriented education, as well as the role of vocational education in the development of the country’s human capital. It was noted that education is always at the centre of public attention in the country; however, the news agenda is often shaped by negative events. Positive developments taking place in the education system should also be actively communicated to the public.

At the end of the event, Misir Mardanov answered questions from the participants on the topic and took commemorative photographs with them.
