Lecture-Presentation Dedicated to the Struggle against Woman Violence

The lecture-presentation devoted to the International Day Against Women Violence was held by the club "Empathy" operating at the Department of Social Work at Azerbaijan University on November 25. The event was attended by the faculty of the department and students studying on this specialty.Students prepared for the event under the guidance of the teacher of the department Tarlan Tagieva..

The lecture was delivered by the students Fidan Taghizadeh and Salman Bayramov. The lecture covered the concept of violence, its types, causes, social aspects, the antihumanist essence of violence, and the role of social workers in protecting the health of victims of violence and in solving their problems. The lecture was followed by the video clips on the topic and the students’ performances.

Following the lecture-presentation, the head of the Department of Social Work, Tunzala Verdiyeva, professor of the department Mayis Aliyev, teachers of the department Vusal Abdullayev and Zuleikha Najafova spoke about possible solutions to the problem from various aspects.

The event ended with discussions around the topic.

It should be noted that the United Nations declared November 25, 1999 the International Day Against Women Violence. The UN suggested the governments, international organizations, non- governmental organizations to hold events on that day in order to raise public awareness. Today's history stems from the events of the 1960s in the Dominican Republic. At that time, three sisters, who were political activist from the Mirabal family, were brutally murdered by dictator Rafael Trujillo.
