An event dedicated to December 3 – International Day of Persons with Disabilities was held at Azerbaijan University. Organized by the Department of Social Work Organization, the event highlighted that the International Day of Persons with Disabilities was established in 1992 by UN General Assembly resolution and is celebrated globally on December 3 each year. The purpose of this day is to raise public awareness about the protection of the rights of people with disabilities.

Participants listened to a presentation by Tarana Musayeva, the guest of the University, Chairperson of the Public Association for “Social Support for People with Disabilities”. In her address, Tarana Musayeva discussed the activities of her organization and covered topics such as the “History of the Day”, “Disability and approaches to it”, “Current situations in the country and worldwide”, and “Models of disability”. She also provided insights into the knowledge and skills required for social workers specializing in supporting individuals with disabilities.

Tarana Musayeva noted that December 3, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, has been widely celebrated in Azerbaijan since 1994 by the relevant decree of the national leader Heydar Aliyev. She emphasized that one of the main objectives of Azerbaijan's social development policy, led by President Ilham Aliyev, is to enhance social protection and support the integration of people with disabilities into society.

The event also featured a heartfelt performance of the song “Homeland is Wonderful” by Ramiz Agayev, a schoolboy with autism syndrome, member of the Public Association.

The event was attended by faculty members from the department and second-year students specializing in Social Work.
