Full member of ANAS, Honored Scientist, State Prize laureate, Academician Yagub Makhmudov gave a lecture for the students of Azerbaijan University majoring in history about “Real history and “Great Armenia” fiction”. The event, organized by the Social Sciences Department, was opened by head of Department, Prof. Gabil Aliyev, who highly appreciated the academician's research. Professor noted that the topics studied by Yagub Makhmudov are of great importance for the history of Azerbaijan and every citizen of Azerbaijan.

Yagub Makhmudov then noted that with the initiative and instructions of Mr. President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan historical science is cleared of falsifications and distortions, numerous sources stored in foreign countries, including archival documents, are brought to the country. The Institute of the History of Science of ANAS has published dozens of valuable works in this field. The book “Real history and “Great Armenia” fiction” was also written in response to the calls of the head of our State.

The academician then touched upon such topics as the process of formation of the Azerbaijani people, the distribution of Azerbaijani lands between Russia and the Qajar state at the beginning of the 19th century, the Gulustan and Turkmenchay treaties, the resettlement of Armenians to the northern Azerbaijani lands.

He also said that the book proved based on the first sources that Armenians migrated to Asia Minor from the Balkan Peninsula, that they were an ethnic group related to the ancient Phrygians, and that they were not the aboriginal population of the Asian continent. There has never been a state called "Great Armenia" in history, and the concept of "Great Armenia" was later invented by Armenian fakers in order to claim the lands of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia. Modern Armenians got the names "Armenia", "Armyane", "Armeni" after they moved to Eastern Anatolia.

It should be noted that the book “Real history and “Great Armenia” fiction” has also been published in Turkish, Russian, English, Georgian, Arabic, Persian, German, Spanish, French and Hebrew.
