A scholarship has been established by Azerbaijan University in honor of a martyr graduate student, Fakhraddin Gurbanli.  Under the terms of the scolarship determined by the Scientific Council, it will be granted to the student with the highest score among the entrants in the first semester of their first year of university studies. The scholarship makes up 125 AZN.

The highest scoring student who entered Azerbaijan University in the 2016-2017 academic year was Ruzigar Shirinov. Having scored 690 points in entrance exams,  he is now in his first year majoring in Finance in the School of Business and Economics. At the same time, Ruzigar Shirinov is a presidential scholar. Due to the establishment of the scholarship in the middle of the fall semester, the student will exceptionally be receiving it in the second semester (spring semester) of the current academic year.

Fakhraddin Seyfaddin Gurbanli received a degree in Social work in Azerbaijan University in 2015. In April this year, he was killed on the frontline in Terter. He was posthumously awarded with "For distinction in military service" medal of the 3rd degree.
