A commemorative event dedicated to "31 March - the day of the genocide of Azerbaijanis" was held at the Azerbaijan University. At the event, organized by the Department of Social Sciences, a minute of silence was honored in memory of the victims of the genocide, and the national anthem of the Azerbaijan Republic was sounded.

The event with an introductory speech was opened by Yusif Gasimov, Vice-Rector for Research work at Azerbaijan University, who noted the will and determination in the history of the Azerbaijani state and people in successfully overcoming all problems, obstacles and difficulties.

The guest of the event, Professor of the University of Tourism and Management, researcher of the problems of the genocide Maharram Zulfugarov devoted his speech to the study of the causes of the March genocide.

Head of the Department of Social Sciences, Professor Gabil Aliyev gave information about the activities of the "Difai" party, created on the initiative of the outstanding thinker and public and political figure Ahmedbek Aghaoghlu in order to combat Armenian terrorism.

Leyla Taghizada, a second-year student of the magistracy in the specialty "History of Azerbaijan of the Ancient and Medieval Period", made a presentation on the topic "Measures to prevent the killings and robberies of the Azerbaijani population by the Armenian armed groups."

At the event, it was noted that over the past 100 years, Azerbaijanis have been subjected to ethnic cleansing as a result of a policy of genocide by Armenian nationalists who seek to create a “Great Armenia” state in their fantasies and were expelled from their historical lands. The most monstrous manifestation of this policy was noted in March 1918. From March 30 to April 3, 1918, in Baku city and various regions of Azerbaijan, tens of thousands of people were brutally killed by the bolsheviks and Armenian armed gangs.

In the speeches, it was noted that the Extraordinary Research Commission, established in 1918 by the Azerbaijan People's Republic, collected documents related to these massacres. Despite the fact that during the years of Soviet power these events were erased from memory, on the basis of historical documents during the period of independence, studies of the massacres in March 1918 were carried out, books were published. On March 26, 1998, national leader Haydar Aliyev signed a decree "On the genocide of Azerbaijanis." From that day on, March 31 was commemorated as Genocide Day.

At the end, a video was shown, prepared in connection with the March genocide.
