“Kaghiz gabir” (Paper grave) film screened at Azerbaijan University

At Azerbaijan University was screened “Kaghiz gabir (Paper grave)” film shot at the initiative of the Azerbaijan Writers’ Union and with the support of Turkish Scientists and Authors of Literary Works (ILESAM) and dedicated to the Khojali genocide. The university management staff, professor and teacher staff, administrative staff, students, spokesperson of the Azerbaijan Writers’ Union, poet Khayal Rza, the head of the ILESAM Mehmet Nuri Parmaksiz and film crew participated in the event.

Before the screening of the film, victims of the genocide was commemorated with a minute of silence.

The rector of Azerbaijan University Saadat Aliyeva noted that, Armenian armed forces violated the international legal norms 26 years ago and brutally tormented the civilians.  As a result of the purposeful and wide scope of measures taken within the campaign “Justice for Khojali” since 2008 at the initiate of the Vice-President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva, appropriate decisions were made related to this tragedy in some countries of the world. The Azerbaijani government took and is now doing a number of measures to inform the public of the Khojali genocide and commemorate this genocide globally. Yet, such severe crime has not been properly evaluated in the international area, and no one has been held liable for this genocide before the international court.

The rector emphasized that, literary works have also a great importance to deliver the Khojali tragedy to the international public as a universal crime.  In this regard, “Kaghiz gabir (Paper grave)” film is of great importance.

The spokesperson of the Azerbaijani Writers’ Union Khayal Rza stated that, this film which is the first film in its genre that describes the 150 people who were taken hostage and whose fate is unknown. The audience will watch the tragedy of that night not as the cadres shot afterwards but from the camera lens of the main figure and witness of these happenings.

Head of the ILESAM Mehmet Nuri Parmaksiz noted that this film is a call to the world. The purpose is to expose the lie of armenians about the genocide for last 100 years and deliver the realities about the tragedy that happened 26 years ago to the international community.

A memorandum was signed on cooperation between Azerbaijan University and ILESAM before the screening of the film. According to the memorandum, the parties will do cooperation on translation and publication of scientific and literary works, organization of conferences and symposiums, holding of autograph days and book presentations of scientists and writers and such other fields that are of significance.

Anar Aliyev and Leyla Babayev have played the main roles of the full-length film of which script writer and director is Elchin Arifoghlu. The film has been shot in Ikinji Nugadi village of Guba.
