Azerbaijan University celebrated the 110th anniversary of Mammad Jafar Jafarov - the academician and prominent representative of the XX century literary studies of Azerbaijan. Not only the special role of the academician as a scientist who determined the theoretical foundations of Azerbaijani romanticism, ideological features, similarity and peculiarity in comparison with world romanticism, possibilities of romantic lyrics in Azerbaijani literary studies was noted, but also various stages and aspects of his work, merits in the field of rapprochement of Azerbaijani and world literature and the importance of studying his heritage were covered at the event called as "The Great Scientist Mammad Jafar", was organized by the initiative of the Department of Azerbaijani Language and Literature.

Ulviyya Rahimova - the head of the department of Azerbaijani language and literature during her speech on the life and work of the scientist, mentioned the exceptional merit of academician Mammad Jafar Jafarov in Azerbaijani literary. More than 30 monographs, books, textbooks, above than 300 articles written on the topics such as Azerbaijani-Russian literary relations, the classical literary heritage of Azerbaijan and Europe, the study of romanticism characterize him as a critic and scientist of literary studies. “Historical essays of Russian literature”, “Russian classics” and a 3-volume textbook “History of Russian literature of the 19th century”, “About our classics”, “Literary-critical views of M.F. Akhundov”, “Literary thoughts”, “Thoughts of Fizuli”, “Huseyn Javid”, “Romanticism in Azerbaijani literature ”, “Jalil Mammadkulizade”, “On aesthetic taste ”,“ Personality of the thinker”, “Aesthetic education, family and school”,

“Romance of life ”, “On the way to art”, “The Thinking World of Nizami” and his other books and monographs are now irreplaceable sources that have retained their scientific weight and relevance in the history of Azerbaijani literary studies. Along with a rich and varied scientific activity, Academician Mammad Jafar Jafarov also engaged in literary work, printed stories under the pseudonym “Zurnachi”, “M.N.”, “Frivolous”, “Forced doctor”, “M.Zeynaloglu”, and tried himself in the genres of miniatures, short stories, novels as well.

The Professor of Azerbaijan University, corresponding member of ANAS, honored worker of science Kamran Aliyev in his speech noted that he was a student of Mammad Jafar and shared his memories related to him. Kamran Aliyev mentioned the difficult days in the life of the academician, the persecution in the period of repression, the teaching activities of the academician. He said: “Each person in the achievement of his success, first of all, is obliged to his teachers. In this regard, I can proudly say that my teacher was Mammad Jafar." Kamran Aliyev said that Mammad Jafar Jafarov carried out valuable work both in the pedagogical field and in the field of training scientific personnel. He was a prominent scientist made a great contribution to the literary studies of Azerbaijan through his research.

The Doctor of Philology, Professor Asif Hajiyev gave information about the role of Mammad Jafar in literary studies and the history of philosophy of Azerbaijan, the significance and scientific features of his works as well in his speech. Asif Hajiyev noted that the study of certain aspects of the legacy of a prominent scholar will further enrich the history of Azerbaijani literary studies. The professor also emphasized the importance of studying the publicist activities of Mammad Jafar Jafarov.

In the end, students' questions were answered and memory pictures were taken.

It should be noted that the event dedicated to the 110th anniversary of Academician Mammad Jafar Jafarov was organized in due to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on April 15, 2019.
