The March genocide victims were commemorated at Azerbaijan University

Azerbaijan University and Nasimi District Executive Authority jointly organized a commemorative event dedicated to March 31 – the Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis. The event was attended by the academic staff of Azerbaijan University and officials of the Executive Authority.

At the event, the memory of the victims of the genocide, the martyrs who gave their lives for the independence and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan was commemorated with a minute of silence, and a video dedicated to the March genocide of 1918 was demonstrated.

The speeches by the Vice-rector for Scientific Affairs of Azerbaijan University Yusif Gasimov, First Deputy Head of Nasimi District Executive Authority Gulara Verdiyeva, 2nd year graduate student of Azerbaijan University Gunel Gurbanova, Chairman of the Student Youth Organization of Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University Javanshir Abdullayev and 4th year student of Azerbaijan University of Languages Jala Eyvazova were heard at the commemorative event.

In the speeches, it was noted that the Armenian nationalists carried out a policy of deportation, ethnic cleansing and genocide against Azerbaijanis under the protection of their patrons throughout the 20th century, and it was noted that the Azerbaijani people and the state grew stronger from the tragedies that befell them. Information was given on the causes, goals and results of the mass massacre and bloody events committed by the Armenian-Bolshevik gangs in March-April 1918, as well as the work done by the Extraordinary Investigation Commission operating in the period of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. It was also pointed out that after the decree of national leader Heydar Aliyev dated 1998, new facts and documents related to the genocide were collected, purposeful work was carried out to convey the truths of Azerbaijan to the international community, as well as the importance of commemorative events was emphasized.
