Azerbaijan University hosted an event on the topic “Drug addiction and AIDS”

An event on the topic "Drug addiction and AIDS" was held at the Azerbaijan University under organization of the “Organization of Social Work” Department. The guest of the event was Zaur Orujov, Head of the Public Union for Against Harmful Habits. Before the event, an exhibition of cartoons depicting the negative impact of harmful habits on a person was demonstrated in the University's academic corps. 

First, head of the department, Doctor of Philosophy in Pedagogy Tunzala Verdieva informed students about addiction and its types, as well as about drug addiction and its consequences, noting that environmental and social factors play an important role in the emergence of addiction. Head of the department noted that drug addiction leads to a big problem – infection with the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) virus. Students majoring in social works should be sensitive to this topic, be aware of the essence of the problem, its causes, social danger and ways to deal with it. 

Then Muhammad Alekperov, the chairman of Empathy Club acting at the department, a fourth-year student majoring in Social Works, informed about the events held by the Club during the year. The Сlub Chairman thanked head of the department for her support in organizing topical issues. 

Subsequently, the guest of the event Zaur Orujov, Head of the Public Union for Against Harmful Habits, spoke. The guest drew attention to statistics of the World Health Organization on harmful habits, told about the severe consequences of harmful habits and addictions, such as tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, drugs, and especially about the negative impact of drug addiction on the human body and psyche. Zaur Orujov noted that taking drugs destroys a person morally and psychologically. In this regard, drug addiction is one of the issues of concern to our country, and preventive work is of great importance in the fight against it.
