The textbook “Sight Translation” (oral translation of a written text) authored by Senior Lecturer of the Translation and Philology Department of Azerbaijan University, PhD in Philology Laman Gasimly, has been published. The purpose of the 76-page textbook is to instill in undergraduate students of higher educational institutions studying Translation, the skills necessary for proper translation of various texts on political, cultural, medical, legal and sports topics.

In the textbook, the topics are collected in certain sections and supplemented with appropriate tasks. Informative texts were given in various sections in order to instill in students such skills as speed reading, quick analysis and comprehension, as well as the ability to clearly express the meaning, which may be necessary during the oral translation of a written text.

Acquisition by students attending classes on interpretation of written text of the skills to quickly scan and translate texts into the target language in the most appropriate way is among the expected results. The tasks developed in accordance with the texts were selected accordingly to help students master the technical aspects and skills necessary for successful translation.

When developing the textbook, special attention was paid to both providing the necessary theoretical information within the subject and performing practical tasks during the lesson.
