Students of Azerbaijan University got acquainted with the history and monuments of Istiglaliyyet Street

An excursion to Istiglaliyyet Street and Icherisheher was organized for a group of students of Azerbaijan University. The students were led by Gahraman Yusupov, a lecturer of the Department of Finance and Accounting, and Kamran Behbudov, a lecturer of the Department of Political and Social Sciences.

The students participating in the excursion were informed about the structures, administrative and historical buildings located on Istiglaliyyet Street such as Ismailliyya Palace, Azerbaijan State Academic Philharmonic Hall, Philharmonic Garden, Institute of Manuscripts of ANAS, House-Museum of Huseyn Javid, the National Museum of Azerbaijani Literature named after Nizami Ganjavi, the fortress walls of Icherisheher, the statues of Academician Yusif Mammadaliyev, Mirza Alakbar Sabir and Nizami Ganjavi, the “Declaration of Independence” monument, as well as the interesting facts about the recent and distant history of the street were presented. It was brought to the students' attention that Istiglaliyyat Street has been the most beautiful and important street of the capital for more than 100 years. The street has witnessed many firsts. The first high-rise building in Baku was built, the first park was laid out, and the first sculpture was erected here, the first military parade was held on this street. The students then visited Tahir Salahov's House Museum and Railway Museum.
