Conference has been held in Azerbaijan University on ongoing problems of modern philology

Azerbaijan University has held a conference on “Ongoing problems of modern philology”. The conference was dedicated to the 110th anniversary of a poet, playwright, honored art worker and academician, Samad Vurgun.

The head of the Azerbaijani language and literature department and associate professor Ulviyya Rahimova made an opening speech at the plenary session of the conference. Her speech was dedicated to Samad Vurghun’s contribution to Azerbaijan literature. Rahimova noted that even though the creativity of the poet living during the "Soviet era" was critised at different times, he has had a crucial role in the development of Azerbaijani literature. Samed Vurghun’s works will always be read with pleasure due to their smooth, plain and clear writing style.

Deputy Director of the Institute of Literature, the chair of Ashugs Union, prof. Maharram Gasimov spoke about the innovations brought into Azerbaijani literature by Samed Vurgun. The professor stated that there was a need in a comprehensie research into the heritage of such prominent figure of Azerbaijani literature of XX century: “His creativity is quite intricate. Despite following the immoral ideology of Communist Party, in his poetry there is a pure spirit coming from our folklore tradition. He raised important issues in literature. It was him that defined the modern language of Azerbaijani poetry. He turned syllabic metre and paired rhyme style into standard literary forms”. 

In their speech during the plenary meeting of the conference, Prof. Gorkhmaz Guliyev and prof. Alkhan Bayramoglu discussed the issues referring to the urgent problems of modern philology and wished success to the conference organizers.

The conference further covered “Problems of Modern Azerbaijani language” and “Modern state of Azerbaijani literature”.
