The next guest of the personal development lectures was Professor Aydin Gasimov

The next guest of the traditional personal development lectures of Azerbaijan University was Doctor of Law, Professor Aydin Gasimov.  In the lecture with the title of “Rehabilitation and reintegration of persons released from prisons”, rich in historical information, the speaker spoke about  the history and the widespread types of death sentence, as well as the current state of the application of the death penalty in the world, the reduction of the criminality dynamics, the abolition of the death penalty in the world and including our country, humanization of the penal policy and the progressive experience of the world, including establishment of the probation service. The speaker also noted the work to be done in this area, recalling national leader Heydar Aliyev’s slogan “a prisoner back into society must be morally and physically healthy”.

Participants listened with great interest to Aydin Gasimov's historical facts about the execution of a famous Azerbaijani poet, the victim of repression, Mikail Mushfig on the island of Nargin, and his researches in this field. Aydin Gasimov also spoke about social and political situation in Azerbaijan, denunciation-imprisonment-investigation-sentence-execution-system established by the Soviet system; penalties imposed by the Soviet repressive unit, execution and mass burial places in the 20-30s of last century and noted that some of the burial places in Pirakashkul upland, the largest mass burial place of this era, were revealed. Aydin Gasimov, directly involved in the Pirakashkul search, also touched upon the importance of conducting a larger scale search in the area and the perpetuation of the memories of the victims of Soviet state terrorism.

Aydin Gasimov also gave information about the books written by him, and presented about 15 books to the library of the university.
