Department of Azerbaijani Language and Literature

A round table dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Ismail Shikli, a prominent literary critic, a well-known playwright, educator, and public figure, was organized at the Azerbaijan Language and Literature Department of Azerbaijan University. The event opened by Ulviyya Rahimova- the head of the department, who in her speech informed about the life and creativity of Ismail Shikhli and noted the importance of the 100th-anniversary celebration of the national writer in our country as the development of literary history.

Asif Hajiyev, the professor of the department, told about the literary environment and  mentioned that as a representative of 60th  the  generation, the problem of human and society in Ismail Shikhli's creativity was solved. The professor noted that the great writer was sometimes able to express himself with his silence concerning the state of society.

Safar Mammadov, associate professor of the department, Dean of the Humanitarian Sciences Faculty, gave information on Ismail Shikhli's memories. He noted that the masterpiece of the famous writer "Dali Kur", is considered as the highest point and a great event in the history of Azerbaijani literature. He told about his activities as a translator and works in his last years.

The lecturer of the department Farhad Madatov spoke about the image of Jahandar aga, the character of the hero of "Dali Kur", reflecting the problems of Russian-Azerbaijani relations, history, and modernity.

Gorkhmaz Guliyev - professor of the department, noted prominent writer Ismail Shikhli`s special role in the constraint of false values ​​and the principal accomplishments in existing problems of the Azerbaijani people.

The speeches also mentioned, his work done in his lifetime, and his rich heritage after his death were the reasons pointing the name of Ismail Shikhli to be known not only as a literary figure and a writer but as a true citizen loving his people and working for the prosperous future.

The event was organized by the Department of Azerbaijani Language and Literature following the President’s Order to mark the 100th anniversary of Ismail Shikhli dated January 28, 2019.
