Today, an international conference”Nizami Ganjavi’s works as a literary and historical source in the study of the ethnogenesis of the Azerbaijani people in the context of the Caucasus and the Turkic world” has started at Azerbaijan University.

The conference is dedicated to the 880 th anniversary of the great Azerbaijani poet Nizami Ganjavi.

Professor Yusif Gasimov,Vice-rector for Scientific Affairs, started the conference, which was organized on the zoom platform due to the current extreme conditions, and presented the program of the conference and plenary speakers.

At the plenary session of the scientific conference,Kamran Talattof, a professor from Arizona University reported on “The Star of Peace:Heaven and Space in Nizami’s Poetry”, and professor at Ball State University, Mattew R. Hotham reported on "Clutching the Pearl-Stringer: Exploring Nizami Ganjavi’s Poetic Legacy.

In his speech, Professor of the Department of Azerbaijani Language and Literature Gorkhmaz Guliyev shared Nizami Ganjavi’s thoughts on the history of research in Azerbaijani literary critism and its place in the world literature.

The conference continues with speeches and discussions on historical facts and issues of national identity in the works of the great poet, the role of Nizami Ganjavi’s creativity in studing the ethnogenesis of Azerbaijani people, Nizami Ganjavi and current issues such as modern history.
