Russian language and close ties between two cultures in Azerbaijan - interview with Professor Asif Hajiyev

Moscow State Pedagogical University, Institute of Social-Humanitarian Education, Faculty of Regional Studies and Ethnocultural Education, department of UNESCO "Russian World: Teacher's Mission", as a continuation of the educator project, professor of Azerbaijan University, member of the Union Writers of Azerbaijan, Asif Hajiyev was interviewed and posted on the University's website and YouTube channel.

In the annotation, interviewed by General Director of Russian "Ethnosphere" International Education Assistance Center, Faculty Dean of Regional Studies and Ethnocultural Education of MPSU, Doctor of Historical Sciences Yelena Omelchenko, Scientific head of the UNESCO department of MPSU, Associate Professor Yuri Goryachev, Executive Secretary of the International Society for Russian Language Support, Associate Professor of the Cultural Studies Department of MPSU, Anna Orlova, states that Professor Asif Hajiyev's scientific interest is literary theory and history, folklore and poetics of literature, mythology and folklore studies, he has been a member of the Coordinating Council of the International Pedagogical Society for Russian Language Support in Moscow for many years and actively deals with educational issues in Russian.

The main leitmotif of the meeting was Russian history, culture, Russian language and literature. Other interesting topics of conversation include the Interaction of Azerbaijani and Russian cultures, the existence of "Russian" Azerbaijan, Russian language education in here, the interest and motivation of Azerbaijani youth to study Russian.

In his interview, Professor Hajiyev mentioned about the tolerant socio-cultural environment in Azerbaijan, the cultural development of all peoples in our country, including Russians, the opportunity to be educated in your mother tongue, that there are many Russian-language schools, secondary and higher education institutions, cultural centers, religious temples, various corners related to Russian history and culture, museums, the Russian State Drama Theater, and the press in our republic. It was noted that all these Russian-language educational and cultural institutions are sponsored and funded by the state.

In the interview, youth culture, its new manifestations, observations and reflections on literary subcultures and forms of communication were also touched on.

In response to his Russian colleagues question, Professor Asif Hajiyev informed about his book on Holy Koran, published in Azerbaijan and Turkey, and mentioned that Islam is a religion of peace, humanist ideals and enlightenment, and these eminent Russian writers appreciated Muslims and Islam for these values.

The Russian experts also listened to Professor Hajiyev's comments on the phenomenon of network literature in Russian, which is currently being studied in detail in his textbook published in Russia for the first time, and thanked Azerbaijani and Russian students for acquainting him with this issue.

In response to the interlocutors question about modern Baku, Professor Asif Hajiyev noted that this wonderful city is a multilingual, unique place with its multi-religious, multicultural, uniting East and West, organically combining historical past and modernity, and that this city was praised by many Russian poets and writers.

At the end of the interview, Asif Hajiyev recommended the epic "Kitabi-Dada Gorgud" (translated by VV Bartold), Ismayil Shikhli's "Deli Kur" and Anar's "Sixth floor of a five-story house" to Russian students who wanted to get acquainted with Azerbaijani literature.
