"Give blood and be one of their heroes!" dedicated to May 8 - World Thalassemia Awareness Day was held by the "Empathy" club under the Organization of Social Work department of Azerbaijan University. The event was opened by the head of the Department of Organization of Social Work, Ph.D. Tunzala Verdiyeva, she  also gave information about the history, essence and traditional holding of the World Thalassemia Awareness Day.

The event was moderated by the chairman of the club and third-year student of social work, Mahammad Alakbarov. He said that we should support people suffering from thalassemia not only today but always.

Doctor Konul Efendiyeva, doctoral student of Azerbaijan University, spoke on "Clinical indicators of thalassemia disease", and Firuza Huseynova, teacher of the Department of Organization of Social Work, spoke on "Medical aspects of thalassemia disease".

In the speeches, students were given detailed information about the forms of thalassemia disease, genetic transmission options, as well as consanguineous marriages and its complications.
