Preliminary discussion of doctorate Khumar Valiyaddin gizi Abdullayeva’s dissertation "Development trends of English-Azerbaijani science fiction (Herbert Wales and Azerbaijan science fiction)" was held in an open session of the Azerbaijani language and literature department of Azerbaijan University. Teachers and professors of the university attended the session which was led by the head of the Azerbaijani language and literature department, docent Ulviyya Rahimova.

The applicant was introduced and her scientific-pedagogical activity was informed by the head of department. Ulviyya Rahimova noted that the presented dissertation consists of introduction, three chapters, conclusion and a list of used literature. The author examined the system of relationships between science-fiction literature, history, development stages, as well as the fiction of the prominent artist Herbert Wells and his scientific progress in the English literary and artistic thought. From this point of view, the importance of the topic of the thesis and the attitude of the author to the problem in some sense exceeds the deficit of the actual problematic of science-fiction, and is also actual and interesting in terms of literary relations.

The applicant gave information about the actuality of the subject, scientific innovation, purpose and duties of the work, meanwhile, the subject essence and result of the dissertation were presented to the attendants, and answered the questions.

Afterwards, professor-teacher staff of the department discussed the presentd dissertation, made statements and gave instructions. Professor Gorkhmaz Guliyev, prof. Asif Hajiyev, prof. Farahim Sadıgov, prof. Jalil Nagiyev, dos. Farhad Madatov, doc. Ulviyya Aliyeva made speeches and emphasized the scientific importance of the dissertation. The preliminary discussion ended with the decision of the attendants about the admission of applicant to the next stage. It was remarked that the dissertation responded to the requirements and recommended for the defense.
