Azerbaijan University hosted an event titled "April 2 - Earth in Blue" dedicated to April 2 - World Autism Awareness Day. The event was organized by the "Empathy" club operating under the department of Social Work. The event was moderated by the chairman of the club and a third-year student majoring in social work Mahammad Alakbarov.

Mahammad Alakbarov said that April 2, has been marked as "World Autism Awareness Day" since 2011 by the decision of the United Nations in order to study the social problems of people with autism, to increase attention and care to them. On that day, buildings around the world are illuminated in blue, a symbol of autism.The main purpose of establishing this day is to draw public attention to the problems of these people, to create conditions for awareness-raising activities, to help improve the quality of life of people with autism. Then, 3rd year students majoring in social work Hasan Isgandarov “What is autism?”, Madina Rahimova “Autism in Azerbaijan”, Emin Mammadov “Work with families of people with autism”, Narmin Rzayeva “Autism savant syndrome”, II year master's student majoring in Work with the youth Shalan Novruzov made a report on "Inclusive society and youth". The event ended with a speech by Tunzala Verdiyeva, Head of the Department of Social Work, Doctor of Philosophy in Pedagogy, the first researcher on autism in Azerbaijan. The speech of the head of the department was dedicated to the current state of the problem of autism and ways of adaptation of children and adolescents with autism to society and self-awareness capabilities. The head of the department also presented examples from his research on the diagnosis and correction of autism.
