The department was established in 1991 and operated under the names of Languages, Foreign Languages 1, and Foreign Languages 2. In 2017, it was reorganized under the name of the Department of Foreign Languages. In 2022, a structural change was carried out again, and 2 new departments were established at the base of the department: Translation and Philology and Foreign Languages.
Language preparation of students admitted to the English-language majors of the Faculty of Business and Economics is conducted by the Department of Foreign Languages. The teaching of foreign languages in non-specialized groups is entrusted to the department.
